NCL Epic Day 6 – Civitavecchia, Italy

Today we are docked at Civitavecchia. Civitavecchia is a busy port because it’s the port city people come to when they want to visit Rome. During our day at port, the cruise ship AIDAcosma and Disney Wonder were both docked next to us. We were here once before in 2019 when we boarded the Celebrity Infinity, but we didn’t tour the town (or much of Rome) at the time due to our schedule. This time around, we booked the Joy of Olive Oil tour.

Our tour began with a bus ride and we were dropped off at the medieval village of Tuscania, at the Porta di Poggio. Porta di Poggio is one of the entrance gates to the city.

Inside the entrance, there was a beautiful 13th century fountain, the Fontana Grande.

We keep walking, and find the Walls of Tuscania.

Which is inside the Torre di Lavello Park, a beautiful park with lots of fountains and old medieval city walls.

Here’s another fountain called Fontana di Sant’Antonio.

There’s a small coffeeshop/liquor store here called Bar Zighetto that served fidA espresso. The best part about this was that the owner let us use their restrooms.

The old walls and bridges were just beautiful.

Next we were back on the bus and we were taken to the olive oil farm of I&P.

At I&P, we were given samples of olive oil to try. You can really taste the difference between each olive oil. They also walked us through the process and explained how olive oil is made. We were then taken to visit their beautiful olive farm.

Then we were taken to a farm style outdoor dining area and we were treated to a 3 course meal. The food wasn’t fancy, but the showstopper here was the unlimited olive oil. Wine was included also.

The people at this olive farm were very friendly and really cared about producing the best olive oil. We bought several bottles to take home with us – the difference between their olive oil and standard store bought olive oil was quite unbelievable. This was an expensive excursion but upscale olive oil isn’t cheap. Compare to the tour prices advertised on their website, our excursion cost seemed rather reasonable.

From here, we were taken back to the cruise port by bus. After coming home from our trip, I started using the olive oil we had bought from I&P, the result was even more amazing than I expected. I would honestly open the cap and just sniff the amazing aroma from time to time. Wish I had bought more.
