Staycation at Stonehurst Place in Midtown Atlanta

For Teddy’s birthday celebration, we decided to have a little staycation about 40 minutes from home at a luxury Bed and Breakfast called Stonehurst Place, in Midtown Atlanta. And let me tell you, it was the BEST DECISION EVER.

STONEHURST PLACE

Stonehurst Place is a luxury bed and breakfast built in 1896. There are 8 rooms to choose from. All of which are absolutely gorgeous. We chose the Master Suite – the largest room offered, and I can say, without a doubt, that this is the nicest room I have ever stayed in. The room is huge. It has a sitting area, an office area, a bed area, and a bathroom with both a large walk-in shower and a large tub. There is also a huge closet in the bathroom with custom closet systems. The bathroom features heated floors as well as a heated towel rack. The bathroom has his and her robes, and the tub has lots of jets. The gas fireplace in the sitting area is small but very romantic. The shower has so many shower heads from different directions that it felt more like hydrotherapy than showering! The front of the inn features a garden with bird baths and many flowers. There is a communal space outside our room that is like a library/sunroom/coffee room, with self serve coffee and tea provided all day long.

The inn also comes with free parking and free breakfast. There’s even a Tesla charging station included as well. For breakfast, you have the option of being served in your room or at the dining room. We enjoyed our breakfast in our room every morning, sitting together next to our little fireplace which was so romantic and nice. The breakfast service was impressive as well. It’s always a three course meal, with French pressed coffee and mimosa to start. The food was phenomenal everyday and they were very happy to accommodate for my cheese allergy.

I was also blown away by the amount of attention to detail. Extra batteries were supplied next to the TV, wine bottle opener and wine glasses were nicely presented on the settee. Lots of hand sanitizers throughout the house and room. We were here for Teddy’s birthday celebration and the kind innkeeper left us two cinnabars with a personalized note. (The cinnabars were delicious!!)

The inn is centrally located to many restaurants in the area and we enjoyed a relaxing weekend with some awesome food!

PLACES TO EAT

LURE

Lure is a stylish seafood restaurant in a farmhouse setting. The patio seating was super nice. The menu, while small, changes seasonally and we really enjoyed everything we had. There are a good selection of craft cocktails (we had There Higo, very good!) and the service was great too. For appetizer, we had the Octopus and Pork Lettuce Roll. It was great for sharing. We got to make our own lettuce rolls at the table. For entrees, I had the Redfish (amazing) and hubby had the Scallop. The scallop had pork belly in it which was super tasty! For the side, we got the Roasted Cauliflower, which came with lots of pistachios. Yum!

THE LAWRENCE

The Lawrence is a smaller restaurant centrally located in Midtown with a variety of American cuisine. We ordered the Mussels for appetizer, the chicken dish and steak dish for entrees and Coeurs de Palmier as our cocktail. The chicken was very juicy, the steak was tender, and the mussels were delicious. However, I wouldn’t recommend the mussels because there weren’t many in there for an appetizer that’s $10. The cocktail is made with Mezcal, something I typically love, but this cocktail was BEYOND smoky. I’m not sure how they made it. Every sip I took, I felt like I could breathe fire for 5 minutes straight. We had to get a couple of beers to balance it out after.

MURPHY’S

Roasted Artichokes

Considered by many to be one of the best brunch places in Atlanta, Murphy’s is a family owned restaurant that’s been around for quite some time. Teddy had been here a long time ago so he was anxious to take me here. We had some amazing Bloody Mary’s and some Eggs Benedict. The Roasted Artichoke was fun to eat and tasty as well.

ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDENS

On this trip, we also visited Atlanta Botanical Gardens. I’ve been to the gardens once before during a holiday light show but I never got to actually see the gardens for the flowers. This time, the flowers were absolutely stunning! We loved walking the trails and looking at everything.

CONCLUSION

We had a wonderful trip and honestly can’t wait to go back. What surprised me the most about this trip was that several times throughout the trip, I had forgotten that we were only 40 minutes from home. There were so many fancy restaurants and things to do and places to see that it felt like another state. I look forward to staying at Stonehurst Place again and enjoy more restaurants and activities in this area.
