Trip Down Memory Lane – VA, MD, and DC

Teddy grew up in Virginia and Maryland. I’ve never been to Virginia or Maryland so we decided to take a little road trip and stop by some sights.

First stop: Richmond, Virginia

Virginia bills itself as the city for lovers. I’m not sure what makes it “city for lovers”, so I looked it up. Like I had suspected, there’s no real proof to back up this claim, and I’m guessing they call it that because there’s not much other things to brag about. You can read about the origin of the slogan here.

Restaurant: Capital Ale House

This place is amazing. The beer, the food, the atmosphere. If you are in the area, you can’t go wrong here.

Sugar Shack Donuts

This was featured in the Bachelorette season 14, with Becca Kufrin. The little donut shop is so quaint and the donuts were amazing. The parking lot is small though, so don’t plan on spending too much extra time here.

George Washington Birthplace

This was a worthy stop. It’s full of natural beauty and history! There’s a farm, a burial ground, and beautiful trails that lead to Popes Creek.

Next Stop: Manassas, VA

Manassas is where Teddy went to high school. We stopped by his high school, Osbourn High School and checked out its surroundings. Then we stopped by the restaurant, Long Time No Sea.

Restaurant: Long Time No Sea

If you like seafood like me, you have SCORED! I want to come back to Manassas just to eat at this restaurant again! There is SO MUCH seafood and the interior is beautiful! They have everything, even king crab claws.

Next Stop: Olney, MD

Teddy lived in Olney during his middle school years. We located the house he lived in, as well as some of his best friends’ old houses from that time. They were all neighbors! We also stopped by his Middle School and the old ice cream joint that he enjoyed!

Final Stop: DC

We ended our trip with a short stay at the Ritz Carlton in Pentagon City, and we were able to meet up with a few friends, including some of Teddy’s childhood friends!!! Next we’ll have to drive all the way home. But it was nice to check out the places Teddy grew up in. I honestly feel like I got to know him better after this trip.
